Iraq: One Killed, Dozens Injured As Unrest Continues in Baghdad

A protester was killed and dozens were injured during clashes between demonstrators and security services in Baghdad, on Tuesday. It is unclear whether the cause of death was gunshot wounds or gas asphyxiation.

Clashes resumed around noon in central Baghdad’s Hafiz Alqadhi Square, al-Rasheed Street and areas around al-Ahrar Bridge where protesters hurled rocks and police responded firing rubber bullets and tear gas canisters.

Unrest continues as the country has been gripped by anti-government protests since October, when demonstrators hit the streets, denouncing high levels of unemployment, widespread corruption and a lack of basic services.
