Vehicles with first refugees were seen arriving at former army barracks in Folkestone, south-east England, Monday. The barracks are set to house hundreds of asylum seekers following this summer’s surge in desperate Channel crossings in small boats.
Staff were also seen preparing Napier barracks for over 400 refugees to be houses there while their asylum claims are being processed.
Bridget Chapman, member of Kent Refugee Action Network said that what needed to be clarified was how the hundreds of people would be able to socially distance and if there’s enough facilities for all of them. She also added, that locals need more information about the procedures.
