Environment activists from Extinction Rebellion staged a protest outside the Bank of England in London on Thursday, to protest against the lack of environmental conditions imposed on companies receiving bailouts due to the coronavirus crisis.
Activists could be seen rallying outside the Bank’s building and marching across the surrounding area, banging pots and carrying banners with the Extinction Rebellion symbol.
“I’m horrified by the level of finance that is being given out by the Bank of England to a huge range of polluting industries, industries that we shouldn’t be supporting when they are damaging the climate and damaging our future” said a protester.
The action took place as airlines and carmakers were allocated billions, as part of the UK’s economic rescue plans following the coronavirus pandemic.
Activists also demanded the government stop rescuing companies responsible for polluting and laying off workers.
