"Enemy of Democracy" and "A Crook": Protesters Rally Outside Netanyahu’s Residence in Israel – Video

Dozens of people gathered in front of the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Thursday after the leader failed to form a coalition government and called for a second election.

Footage shows protesters holding posters and calling on the prime minister to step down, accusing Netanyahu of using his position to avoid standing trial.

“I hate the idea that I have a prime minister who is a crook or is trying to ruin our democracy in order to avoid meeting a judge to pay whatever he has to pay if he’s found guilty. He’s ruining the entire judicial system. He’s creating hatred. He’s creating division,” said protester Oren Simon.

“This is not a matter of hatred, it’s a matter of a struggle to save our democracy. He is an enemy of democracy. One person who’s about to stand trial is doing all he can to evade fair trial and in order to save himself,” added protester Daphna Brafman.

On Wednesday night, Israeli parliamentarians dissolved the parliament after Netanyahu was unable to form a majority coalition government. Netanyahu is accused of several corruption charges and will face court later in the year.

New elections will be held on September 17th.
