Chile: Smoke From Australia's Fires Spotted in Chile

The smoke that comes from raging bushfires in Australia could be seen some 12,000 kilometres (7,400 miles) away in Chile, as footage filmed in Santiago on Monday shows.

A meteorological trough is believed to have served as a conduit through which the smoke travelled across the Pacific Ocean.

At least 25 people and around half a billion animals have reportedly died since the fires began as a result of a record-breaking heatwave in September, with around 5,000,000 hectares (12,355,269 acres) affected.
