The flags of the countries with confirmed coronavirus cases were projected on to the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue on top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night.
Nearly 166 flags were seen on the statue with Bishop of Rio de Janeiro leading a prayer ceremony that was closed to the public, with limited access offered to members of the media.
In an attempt to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the 38-metre-tall (125 ft) statue which last year saw almost 2 million visitors, was closed on Tuesday and won’t reopen for at least a week.
After announcing its first coronavirus case on February 26, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has risen to 428, with four deaths, according to Brazilian officials.
